I Look Forward To Meeting You Soon. Kind Regards, Xand.
A young woman I read for kindly gave me permission to use her Grand Tableau as an example reading, and so I’d like to share her story with you through my favourite divination system – The Leno GT. Those of you familiar with Lenormand and The Grand Tableau will notice I do things a little differently. For starters, we don’t have a visible ‘Man’ and ‘Woman’ card and that is because I don’t live in 1850 or Florida, thank you very much. To make my reading inclusive, I turn cards 28 and 29 over and use a piece of Amethyst for Player 1 (28) and a piece of Labradorite for Player 2 (29). Allow me to just say that I think it is disgraceful that in this day and age, people are still creating decks with all-white heterosexual faces and no mention of other ethnicities or the Queer community. When I first discovered Leno three years ago and bought my first deck I almost threw it in the bin convinced I would be unable to use it, but thankfully I soon discovered this gorgeous deck created by the wonderful Mariana Andrade and you too can purchase it via her website here – https://www.queerdivine.co.uk
At the end of this post, I shall insert the near and far rules for the GT. Now, there are many ways of reading a GT, so I don’t always focus on the traditional ‘rules’, preferring to read the spread more intuitively, but it is important to learn them if you are to be a proficient GT reader!

The more I read a GT for myself and others, the more I realise that there are steps I go through to make life easier for myself. This is a big spread with 36 cards in 36 houses and it’s easy to get overwhelmed so I’m going to talk you through my process in the hope this will make life easier for you. The first thing I do in every reading is to look for the Clouds. The Clouds is the card of general trouble and it’s sitting in the house of the Child – the house of new beginnings and of children if the person has kids. As I was reading for a woman who is straight I assumed we had a situation here where a child was going through a difficult time.
Now, this is where I need to talk to you about me and why this spread is so important to me. My sister died from Breast cancer in August of 2022 and ever since them we’d had a very strong bond – we are best mates, innit sis, in a way that we never were when she was alive because when she was alive she thought Ron de Santis was a great guy and was a full time God botherer and all round pain in the ass – sorry sis but it’s true, you were. But like I said, now we are best mates, and she has become my mentor and teacher and my guide in the Spirit World. And these days, most of the readings I do end up being for people who have lost a loved one or are in the process of losing a loved one – usually from Cancer. It’s as if my ‘Raison d’être’ – reason for being here is to help the living and the dead to have a chit chat. I’m a translator effectively and the reason I’ve spent so long learning the GT, along with Tarot, Playing cards, and more recently Runes, in the very Geeky and highly linguistic and Grammatical way I have (or perhaps scientific way one could say as I’m very into Quantum Physics innit) is because this is what I used to do in a previous life, or pervious lives, an I need to be good at reading a GT in order to do what I do if that makes sense. It’s my main tool to allow me to talk to dead rellys.

I’m sure most folks are shocked at the way I speak, but I also write comedy and adore stand-up, so when I get intuitive hits (what people call Spirit messages or messages from guides or Hecate for example – all deep mind or Akashic Records I’d say) it’s like a stand up comedian talking into an ear piece I’m wearing a lot of the time and it’s how I know I’m getting an intuitive hit and it’s not just a brain fart.

Ok, so let’s get into this reading. I notice things, and I try to make observations in a certain pattern I suppose, and the reason for this is because what we have here are 36 cartoons – nothing more, nothing less – much like with Tarot, and cartoons don’t have meanings – they are just symbols to kick start ideas. So I notice, that’s all, I just notice. The more you can just make observations without thinking ‘This means this’ or trying to solve the puzzle, the easier reading a GT becomes. It’s also important to breathe a lot and try to be as relaxed as possible as we want to slow down those conscious mind-brain waves from Beta down to Alpha. In some cases, I am sure I can get mine down to Theta (especially after several shots of vodka!). No, it’s true, have you tried? But I prefer not to be pissy boots whilst entering the World of Spirits. What? If I didn’t insert a bit of humour, this blog post would be as dry as burnt toast, folks, it really would. Have you visited other Leno sites? I have. Talk about taking a left turn into Snoozeville!

Once I noticed the location of the Clouds in the house of the Child, I asked the seeker if they had two children or just one child and if there were issues or problems they were experiencing. She told me one of the children had crossed over. I immediately noticed the Coffin in the house of the Clouds which mirrored the Child in the house of the Key with the Mouse the card of loss in the house of the Heart the house of love. As usually happens when our loved ones make contact in this way, I felt cold as did the young woman I was reading for. She lives in England and I in Ireland and we were chatting over Whatsapp video. To say it was emotional is an understatement. The death of a child is just devastating. But it is moments like these which make me so grateful to be able to do these readings. I noticed the Moon in the house of the Moon and the Lily in the house of the Fish – the house of value and I realised this flow (fish) of psychic information and awareness (Moon) would bring this young woman peace of mind (Lily) and ease her pain.

Writing up this reading, makes me understand why my sense of humour is so important to me, as talking about death and grief all the time can be draining and emotionally exhausting and I know from my own experience of losing my sister, which was the most traumatic thing I have ever been through in my 46 years old this planet in this body, that comedy saved my sanity it really did. But also, the reason I write in such a relaxed manner is that I am aware of the fact that most folks don’t believe in any of this metaphysical mumbo jumbo and especially when something sounds wanky and ‘new age’ and unrealistic (like most Tiktokers and Youtubers do these days) it just gives ‘Scammer’ and ‘Fake’ and we Psychics have a pretty bad reputation anyway thanks to idiots like this –
Incidentally, I did reach out to https://www.instagram.com/benjaminzand/ Ben Zand (I mean, we practically have the same name, except mine begins with an X) and offered to read for him for free to prove psychic abilities are real but got no response sadly. I’m not surprised as the fakers cause us all to be tarred with the same fuckin’ brush! Am I venting as I’m pissed off with being told I’m a fake.. yes.

Anyway, let’s get back to the reading. I noticed the Scythe in the house of the Coffin which mirrors the House which mirrors the Fox which mirrors the Key in the house of the Anchor. Then I noticed the Lily which knights up to the Mountain and then the Anchor in the Lily which mirrors the Heart in the Ship and the Ship in the Bear which mirrors the Clouds in the child. Then I noticed the Ring, the Heart, and the Anchor were all behind the seeker who is in the house of the Bouquet which mirrors the Clover in the Cross, which mirrors the Rider which mirrors the Star. Then I noticed the Bouquet in the Letter which mirrors the Letter in the Tower. Then I noticed the Tower in the Snake and the Snake in the Garden and the Ring in the Mountain and most importantly of all.. the Fox in Player 2’s house which mirrors the house in the clover – the clover being both the card of luck but also the card of risk. To make life easier I’m going to record an audio file so I can talk you guys through this reading in more detail otherwise it would take me a month of Sundays to write all this out! I’ll put the video on Youtube and embed it below in this blog. I’m hoping this will be a good learning tool for you!
If I have not said it already, the reason the Child is in the house of the Key is because apart from this being a mediumistic style reading (which the majority of my readings are) the main issue here or key issue is the affect the relationship breakup and domestic voience has had on this woman’s child and how she is now fighting to get back in control of her life and protect her son. The clouds – the first card I always look at – appearing in the fourth column represents the most traumatic incident or period in 2024 which would have been around July (if memory serves) as I did this reading in December. We can count back from Player 2 in the house of the Bouquet month by month to July. Usually I find columns show months, a fortnite, weeks, or days.. but in daily read will be hours so you can really pinpoint when an event occurred in the past with a tremendous level of accuracy and then of course predict future events with the same razor sharp precision.

The traditional Method of Distance reading style is very useful especially when looking at the general trouble in the person’s life during the time span indicated by the GT – the nearer the clouds the nearer the trouble. But these are just a guide and to be kept in mind – they are not the be-all and end-all in my experience! Remember the GT is a multi-dimensional non-linear spread in a sense. So yes you can read it in a very traditional way with time flowing from left to right and applying the near and far rules but, as I’ve shown you I hope, chaining houses, mirroring, and knighting I find to be the most useful techniques! Anyway, here are the rules again so you can become familiar with them.
📚Near and Far Rules📚
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 1. — THE RIDER – is a messenger of good fortune—if not surrounded by unlucky cards, brings good news, which the Person may expect, either from his own house (NEAR) or from abroad or of a professional nature (FAR); this will, however, not take place immediately, but some time later if far.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 2. — A CLOVER is also a harbinger of good news; but if surrounded by clouds it indicates great pain; but if No. 2 lies near No. 29 or 28, the pain will be of short duration, and soon change to a happy issue. If the CLOVER is far it can indicate a lack of positive opportunities, misfortune, or the person is feeling pessimistic.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 3. — THE SHIP, the Symbol of commerce, signifies great wealth, which will be acquired by trade or inheritance; if near to the Person, it means an early journey. If the fish is near the ship they may expect some extra money.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 4. — THE HOUSE is a certain sign of success and prosperity in all undertakings; and though the present position of the Person may be disagreeable, the future will be bright and happy. If this card lies in the centre of the cards, under the Person, this is a hint to beware of those who surround them.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 5. — A TREE, if distant from the Person, signifies good health; more trees of different cards together, leave no doubt about the realization of all reasonable wishes.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 6. — CLOUDS, if their clear side is turned towards the Person, are a lucky sign; with the dark side turned to the Person, something disagreeable will soon happen. I don’t have a dark and light side in my decks so I look to see if the clouds are to the left (in the past) in the present or in the future (to the right). I just look for the flow of positive and negative energy! It’s easier. The cards the clouds touch will tell you about the nature of the general trouble the person is dealing with.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 7. — A SERPENT is a sign of misfortune, the extent of which depends upon the greater or smaller distance from the Person; it is followed invariably by deceit, infidelity, and sorrow.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 8. — A COFFIN, very near to the Person, means, without any doubt, dangerous diseases, death, or a total loss of fortune. More distant from the Person, the card is less dangerous.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 9. — THE BOUQUET means much happiness in every respect.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 10. — THE SCYTHE indicates great danger, which will only be avoided if lucky cards surround it. The further away the better!
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 11. — THE WHIP means quarrels in the family, domestic afflictions, want of peace among married persons; also fever and protracted sickness.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 12. — THE BIRDS means hardships to overcome, but of short duration; distant from the Person, it means the accomplishment of a pleasant journey.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 13. — THE CHILD is a sign that the person moves in good society, and is full of kindness towards everybody.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 14. — THE FOX, if near, is a sign to mistrust persons with whom you are connected, because some of them try to deceive you; if distant, no danger is to be apprehended.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 15. — THE BEAR is either a messenger of good fortune or admonishes us to keep away from company; particularly from that of the envious.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 16. — THE STAR confirms good luck in all enterprises; but if near clouds, it means a long series of unhappy accidents.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 17. — THE STORK indicates a change of abode, which will take place, the sooner the nearer the card lies to the Person.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 18. — THE DOG, if near the Person, you can consider your friends faithful and sincere; but if very distant and surrounded by clouds, be cautious not to trust those who call themselves your friends.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 19. — THE TOWER gives the hope of a happy old age; but if surrounded by clouds, it forbodes sickness, and, according to circumstances, even death.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 20. — THE GARDEN prognosticates that you will visit a very respectable company; if very near, you are to form a very intimate friendship, but if distant, it hints to false friends.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 21. — THE MOUNTAIN, near the Person, warn you against a mighty enemy; if distant, you may rely on powerful friends.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 22. — THE WAZE (CROSSROADS), surrounded by clouds, are signs of disaster; but without this card, and if distant from Person, that you shall find ways and means to avoid the threatening danger. You want this card of choices, alternatives, and solutions near! The Waze is my way of figuring out my way through he labyrinth that is the GT.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 23. — THE MOUSE is a sign of a theft, a loss; when near, it indicates the recovery of the thing lost or stolen; if at a distance, the loss will be irreparable.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 24. — THE HEART is a sign of joy leading to union and bliss.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 25. — THE RING, if on the right of the Person, prognosticates a rich and happy marriage; when on the left, and distant, a falling out with the object of your affection, and the breaking off of a marriage.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 26. — THE BOOK indicates that you are going to find out a secret; according to its position, you can judge in what manner; great caution, however, is necessary in attempting a solution.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 27. — THE LETTER, without clouds, means luck, which comes to you by distant, favourable news; but if dark clouds are near the Person, you may expect much grief.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 28. & No. 29 — Near and Far rules don’t apply they are just Player 1 and Player 2 or Player 1 and a project or something they are working on – or if you’re reading for yourself – the masculine and feminine parts of your character or mind.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 30. — THE LILY indicates a happy life; surrounded by clouds, a family grief. If this card is placed above the Person, it indicates the same as being virtuous; if below the Person, the moral principles are doubted.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 31. — THE SUN, lying near, points to happiness and pleasure, as its beams spread light and warmth; far away, it indicates misfortune and sorrow, as without the Sun’s influence nothing can grow.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 32. — THE MOON is a sign of great honours, fortune and fame if the card lies at the side of the Person; if at a distance, it means grief and misery.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 33. — THE KEY, if near, means the certain success of a wish or a plan; if distant, the contrary.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 34. — THE FISH, if near the Person, points to the acquisition of a large fortune by marine enterprises and to a series of successful undertakings; if distant, it indicates the failure of any speculation, no matter how well projected or planned.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 35. — THE ANCHOR is a sign of a successful enterprise at sea, of great advantage in trade, and of true love; but distant, it means a thorough disappointment in ideas and inconstancy in love.
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ No. 36. — THE CROSS is always a bad sign; if very near the person, you may hope that the misfortune will not last long.
